Evelyn Sorenson, age 98, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Thursday (July 10th) at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday (July 18th) at Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Alan Arneson officiating. Interment will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Gully. MN. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Evelyn Violet Westby was born on February 3, 1916 to parents Martin and Annie (Shay) Westby, in St. Paul, Minnesota. She attended school in McIntosh and also studied cosmetology at Fargo. She worked in a hair salon with a friend for a few years. She was baptized, confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was a member of the Salem Lutheran church of Gully. She taught Sunday School and was active in the ladies aid. She also was the church organist for many years. She attended Mt. Caramel Lutheran church in McIntosh after the Salem Lutheran church closed. Evelyn was united in marriage to Delmer Sorenson on Oct. 8, 1949, in McIntosh. They lived in Crookston when they were first married and then purchased a farm near Gully where they moved to later. Evelyn enjoyed playing games, crocheting, sewing, embroidery and playing her piano. She also enjoyed her garden, flowers and canning the many vegetables from that garden. She loved her animals, especially cats.Delmer passed away in April of 1996 after 47 years of marriage. Evelyn continued to live on the farm until moving to a farm near Fosston. She moved to Prarie Pines assisted living in 2008. She entered the First Care Living center in Fosston in April of 2014.Evelyn passed away at First Care Living center on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the age of 98.She is survived by a daughter, Janet (Robert) Landsverk of Fosston, MN; her grandchildren, Randy (Jodi) Landsverk, of Fosston, Bryan (Bridget) Landsverk of Fosston and great-grandchildren, Annika Landsverk, Chloe Landsverk, Brooke Landsverk, Berkley Landsverk, and Brantley Landsverk, all of Fosston, and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, all her brother in laws, sister in laws, and also some nieces and nephews.
