Evelyn Sonstelie, age 91, from McIntosh, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, December 19th at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22nd at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Rev. Aage Carlsen officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the McIntosh Community Center, and for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Sand Hill Cemetery, rural Winger, Minnesota, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements. Evelyn Amanda Gunning was born on April 9, 1915 to parents Andrew and Laura (Brue) Gunning at Clearbrook, Minnesota.She was married to Gerhard Sonstelie on October 19, 1935 at the Hope Lutheran Church Parsonage in Fosston, Minnesota. They made their home on a farm near Winger, Minnesota. Gerhard passed away in 1965, and Evelyn moved into McIntosh, Minnesota in1972, where she lived until 2004, when she entered First Care Nursing Home in Fosston.Evelyn began her career as a nursing assistant in 1952 at nursing homes in the area, and worked at the Fosston Hospital for many years until she retired in 1980. She then worked as a cook at the McIntosh School for the next 10 years.Evelyn was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh, Ladies Aide, the McIntosh VFW Auxiliary, and was an avid quilter. On Tuesday, December 19, 2006 Evelyn Sonstelie passed away at First Care Nursing Home at the age of 91 years.She is survived by sons, Arvid (Carol) of Moorhead, MN, and Gordon (Shirley) of Erskine, MN; daughters, Marie Ripp of East Grand Forks, MN, and Karen (Luther) Jacobson of Burnsville, MN; daughter-in-law, Dianne Sonstelie of Winger; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; brother, Walter (Arlyce) Gunning of Clearbrook; and sister, Doris (Emil) Hallin of Rapid City, SD.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerhard; son, Rodney; daughter, Arlene; and brothers, Gilman, Art, and Earl Gunning.
