Evelyn Nielson

Evelyn Nielson, age 86, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Tuesday (February 9th) at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (February 12th) at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Faith Lutheran Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (February 11th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Evelyn's family prefers memorials to the Sunday school music fund at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor.Evelyn Mae Lee was born May 1, 1923 to Andrew and Glendora Lee in Dolliver, Iowa. She was the youngest of four children. The Lee family moved to the Erskine/Mentor community in 1933. They became members of Faith Lutheran Church. Evelyn attended the LaBelle school in rural Mentor. She began playing piano at the age of 10 and accompanied the Sunday School Christmas programs and opening exercises beginning at age 16 until the age of 86. Evelyn was the church organist at Faith for 28 years. Her involvement in Faith Church also included teaching Sunday School for 32 years, Luther League, youth groups, Vacation Bible School, Ladies Aide, Bible Study groups and Circle. Evelyn was also a very active volunteer in the Pioneer Memorial Care Center for 30 years, bringing much enjoyment through her music. Evelyn married Wilbur Nielson on April 2, 1946. They had three daughters-Marilee Steele (Tom), Sharilyn Walters (Mark) and Janine Affeldt (Paul). Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, and one niece.She is survived by her husband, Wilbur, her three daughters, 10 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and her dog, Willie.Honorary Pallbearers will be Evelyn's Sunday School children over the years.Active Pallbearers will be Daryl Halvorson, Stuart Lien, Jim Lien, Steve Sveningson, Don Simonson, and Dale Stinar.
