Ethel Naastad, age 85, of Lengby, MN, passed away on Monday, October 23rd, at Essentia First Care Living Center in Fosston. At her request, there will be no services. The Carlin Funeral Home of Fosston assisted with arrangements and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.Ethel Sophia Goldsmith Naastad was born on September 4, 1932 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Charles and Lulu Nelson Goldsmith. She was married to Charles DeVorak in 1949. To this marriage, a son, Charles Jr. was born. They later divorced. She moved to California where she lived for the next 25 years. In 1962 she was married to James Kingos. After his death, she returned to Minnesota.While she was working at the V.F.W. Club in Lengby she met Lester Naastad and they were married in 1977. After 32 years of marriage, Lester passed away in 2009. Ethel worked as a Supervisor at the Lengby Park for 13 years. She was also Mayor of Lengby for six years and, for nine years, she was a clerk at the Fosston Police Department.Survivors include her son, Charles and his wife, Kimberly, of Running Springs, CA; two granddaughters, Chelsea and Nicole; three great grandchildren, Ava, Logan, and Jenika; sister-in-law, Sharon Goldsmith of Lengby; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents, Charles and Lulu Goldsmith; three brothers, Charles, Gordon, and Robert; and three sisters, Muriel, Beverly, and Pearl.
