Esther "Dily" Bergeson, age 100, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Monday, September 11th, at Cornerstone Residence Extended Care in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16th, at First Baptist Church in Clearbrook, MN with Pastor Verlyn Strenge officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, rural Clearbrook. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.Esther Lillie "Dily" Hanson Bergeson was born on July 3, 1917 in Hangaard Township, rural Clearwater County, Minnesota the 6th daughter of Olaf B. and Hilda Kristine Clemenson Hanson. Dily grew up on the family farm where she helped her parents and 11 siblings. She attended the Meadow country school. She worked as a nanny in Duluth and Bemidji, Minnesota. Lester and Dily met at a dance in the home of Les' sister, Tillie and Otto Wagner. It was love at first sight! Dily traveled alone by train and joined Lester in California where he was working and staying with Oscar and Josie Hoiland. They were married at a small Lutheran church in Richmond, California. DeVona and Laurell were born there.They later returned to Clearbrook, Minnesota where Jane was born. After a few years of farming, they moved into Clearbrook where Lester began building homes, the drive-In and motel. Mom Dily thoroughly enjoyed the challenges, hard work and social aspects of running a family business.After Dily and Les' two older girls were married and had left home, the family, in 1962, moved to Crookston. Lester had been a general contractor in Crookston, East Grand Forks, and Grand Forks. After semi-retirement, they resided in Fosston and Bemidji for many wonderful years. Dily was a very devoted wife, mother of 3, and grandmother of 12 amazing grandchildren and their families. Her family was very important to her. She loved entertaining family and friends and was a wonderful cook.She was known for her sugar cookies, lefse, potato klub, her homemade bread, jellies and pickles. Dily was an active member of her church and had transferred her membership back to Clearbrook First Baptist. She especially enjoyed working with youth. Dily also had a deep personal relationship with her Lord and Savior and was bold in sharing her faith.Dily passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Cornerstone Living Extended Care in Fosston at the age of 100 years, having resided there for the past 4 and a half years.Survivors include her three daughters, DeVona (Leif) Haugen of Bagley, MN, Laurell (Helmer) Nord of Eagle, ID, and Jane (Obie) Moen of Crookston, MN; 12 grandchildren, Mike, Shawn, Sheldon, Kenneth, Sheila, Valerie, Tamella, Tony, Rob, JoDee, Karena, Matthew, and their spouses; 35 great grandchildren; and 28 great great grandchildren; one brother, Helmer Hanson of Duluth, MN. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; great grandsons, Chad Williams and Jeremy Baumann; and siblings, Stella Jacobson, Walter Hanson, Emma Thorbeck, Olga Berger, Alice Skjveren, Vida Strand, Marvel Hanson, Gladys Weaver, Tootsie Greenlee, and Lori Tuff.
