Erwin Rude, age 80, from Winger, MN passed away on Monday, November 16th at the V. A. Hospital in Fargo. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 21st at 11:00 AM at Gosen Lutheran Church, rural Winger with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church, and interment will be at the church cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the Fengestad-Solie American Legion Post #200 from Winger, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston, MN is in charge of the arrangements.Erwin Hartvick Rude was born on January 30, 1929 on a farm east of Fertile, MN to Henry and Ida (Lewis) Rude. He was baptized and confirmed at Faaberg Lutheran Church in Rindal, MN by Rev. P. M. Trelstad.The family moved to several different farms until they purchased a farm north of Winger, MN. He went to grade school at District 114 in Garden Township and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1949. Erwin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.He married Ann Salverson and they had two sons, Steven and Wade, and one daughter, Terri Ann.After the Army, Erwin farmed until he retired. He also owned a resort at Big Toad Lake east of Detroit Lakes for several years, worked at Crystal Sugar Beet Plant in Crookston and at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen.Erwin enjoyed going fishing and hunting, especially deer hunting, and he played football and baseball, and liked watching all sports on TV. He also enjoyed going to church at Gosen Lutheran Church near his home where he was a member.On Monday, November 16, 2009 Erwin passed away at the V.A. Hospital in Fargo at the age of 80 years.He is survived by three children, Steven Joel (Sally) Rude of East Grand Forks, MN, Terri Ann Burslie of Burnsville, MN and Wade Ervin Rude of Denham Springs, LA; four stepchildren, Jerry (Judy) Qualley of Hawley, MN, David (Kristi) Qualley of Oslo, MN, Cindy (Randy) Driscoll of East Grand Forks and Randy (Tamara) Qualley of Wheat Ridge, CO; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one sister, Edna Helgaas of Winger; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin and Mylen; and two sisters, Irene Anderson and Blanche Rude.
