Ernest Larson

Ernest Larson, age 79, of Trail, MN, passed away on Tuesday (July 5th) at Essentia Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday (July 9th) at Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail, MN with Pastor Michael Sletto officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday, all at Sand Valley Church. Military honors will be conducted by the Trail VFW Post #6426 and arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Ernest Julius Larson was born on February 11, 1932 in Hill River Township the son of Andrew and Gina (Syverson) Larson. Ernest was baptized at home and confirmed at Vernes Lutheran Church. He attended Country School in Hill River Township through the eighth grade then worked at home and for neighbors until he was drafted into the Army in 1953. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1955. After the service he worked for Blanchard Osmonson for seven years. Ernest was united in marriage to Kathleen Flateland on December 31, 1960. They moved to Trail in 1962. In 1965 they moved to Gary, MN and worked for Clarence Swenson until 1970 when they moved to Fosston and worked at Vennes Farms until Ernest retired in 1994. Upon retirement Ernest and Kathleen moved back to Trail to the Flateland Family Farm.Ernest enjoyed playing guitar, playing cards, and spending time with his family. He was also an active member of the Sand Valley Church.Ernest passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Essentia Hospital in Fosston at the age of 79 years, four months and five days.Ernest is survived by his wife Kathleen, his children Dale (Shelly) Larson of Pomona, KS, Lori (Michael) Wollman of Oklee, MN and Jarrod (Leah) Larson of Trail, MN; six grandchildren: Sarah, Blake, Brandon, Casandra, Katlin, and Tristan; one great grandchild: Bentley; two brothers, George (Elaine) of Bagley, MN, Robert of Sioux Falls SD; three sisters, Mabel (Marlin) Grave of Hartford, SD, Marion (Walter) Bratland of Thief River Falls, MN, Nora (Merlin) Rhen of East Grand Forks, MN; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sister Irene (died at birth).Pallbearers at the service will be Marvel Flateland, Gordon Flateland, Jason Flateland, Ronald Roed, Lynn Vennes, and Craig Anderson
