Emily Lorentson, age 90, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Tuesday (March 13th) at First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (March 19th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bagley, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (March 18th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Emily Louise Sather was born September 15, 1921 in Amery, WI to parents Ole and Aleta "Lettie" (Houghdahl) Sather. She was baptized and confirmed at East Immanual Lutheran Church, near Amery.Emily grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from Amery High School with the class of 1939. Following high school she attended business college in St Paul. It was in St Paul that she met and married Nels Nelson of Bagley. They were married in 1946. They made their home in rural Bagley until Nels passed away in 1964. At that time she moved to Fosston, where she has resided since. After her children were grown, she married Norman Lorentson in 1979. Norman passed away in 2006. Emily was a member of Kingo Lutheran Church for many years and later a member of Hope Lutheran Church.Emily worked at various jobs in the St Paul and Fosston areas and spent many years working at the First National Bank in Fosston until her retirement in 1983. Following retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She liked to travel and enjoyed many vacations including Alaska, British Columbia and Norway.Emily enjoyed reading and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She was especially proud of the beautiful red tulips that adorned her gardens each spring. On Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 Emily passed away at First Care Living Center in Fosston at the age of 90 years.She is survived by sons Merle (Janet) Nelson, Chester (Deb) Nelson of Bagley; daughter Joan (Donnie) Nelson of Fosston; son-in-law Vince (Gwen) Gillen of Brainerd, and sister Doris Humphrey of St Paul. Grandchildren Paul (Liza) Nelson, Jolene Nelson, Lori (Jon) Hand, Patrick Gillen, Kelly (Andrew Budzinski) Gillen, Stephanie Nelson, Erik (Kim Ames) Nelson, Adam Nelson, Josh Nelson and Lindsey (Anthony) Plemel. Great grandchildren Ethan, Alex, Cole, Katie, Reed, Gunnar, Warren, Parker, Kendall, Morgan & Kylee. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Nels and Norman, daughter Jeanne (Nelson) Gillen, brothers Orin, Donald, David, & Philip Sather.
