Elaine Olson

Elaine Olson, age 91, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday, February 14th, at Essentia First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19th, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Poplar Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the church. Memorials may be sent to the World Hunger Appeal at www.elca.org/hunger.Elaine was born on June 12, 1924 to Ted and Selma Olson in King Township in McIntosh. She attended the Oakland country school and Asphalt country church.  Elaine graduated from Fosston High School in 1942.Elaine married Chester Olson in 1945, and they embarked on the life-time work of farming and raising their family of seven children. Their farm was in Columbia Township.Any one that knew Elaine knew that she was the wearer of many hats both literally and figuratively. She always wore a hat to shield herself from the sun after her diagnosis with Melanoma. The many hats in her life included being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, quilter, seamstress, gardener, cake decorator, motion choir director, church secretary, church flower arranger, neighborhood welcome lady, and Head Start volunteer "grandma". She was employed as a waitress, clothing store saleswoman, Nurse's Aide, and as an Accredited Record Technician for 24 years at Fosston Hospital. She also was a 1990 U.S Census Bureau worker and worked at the Fosston DAC and Fosston Group Home. Elaine June Olson entered the glory of her eternal home on "Sweethearts Day" at the age of 91, February 14, 2016.  Elaine had been a resident of the First Care Living Center, in Fosston, since March 2015.She is survived by 6 children:  Bruce (Diana) Olson, Rebecca (James) Flaherty, Craig (Jen) Olson, Cynthia (Darel) Gustafson, Lorrie (Pat) Harris, and Lois (Bob) Storey.  She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Olson, and her son, David Olson.Elaine was a role model in so many ways, she lived life abundantly, with every ounce of her being, always using her gifts and talents to enhance life, and teaching others along the way, (including Polka dancing and nickel digging). She had a simple but solid unshakable faith and could be feisty when she needed to be. She was a family treasure and leaves behind a legacy, not easily forgotten.Psalm 119:105 "Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path."
