Edward Horacek, age 97, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Tuesday (November 29th) at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (December 2nd) at the United Methodist Church in Erskine with the Rev. Michelle Miller officiating. Interment will be in Synod Cemetery, rural Erskine at a later date. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Edward "Eddie" Horacek was born on February 1, 1914 in New York City, New York to parents Emil and Katherine (Hnida) Horacek. He was baptized at the First Bohemian Presbyterian Church in New York City and attended school on the east side of New York. On September 16, 1938 he married Margaret Calder and they had four children, Russel, Laura, Cathy and Margaret. His wife, Margaret, passed away in 1974. He entered the United States Army in 1943 and was a member of a combat engineers unit. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to his job at the Bordon Company and shortly thereafter joined the Hilton Hotel chain as a banquet manager.In 1979, Eddie and Irene Carter were married in Pleasantville, New Jersey. They came to Erskine and attended the United Methodist Church where Eddie was a lay speaker for many years. He also carried mail for Erskine and Mentor for 10 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Erskine and a member of the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine. Eddie loved fishing and gardening and also was a life-long New York Yankee fan.Survivors include his wife, Irene of Erskine; son, Russel (Mary) of McIntosh, MN; and daughters, Cathy (Richard) Carlson of Ohio and Margaret "Peggy" (Billy) Schaefer of New York; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Also surviving are step-children, Bobby of New Jersey, Bonnie of North Carolina, Ethel of Mentor, MN, and Patricia of New York.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; daughter, Laura; and sister, Helen.Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine
