Edith Trandem

Edith "Edie" Trandem, age 87, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Tuesday (July 29th) at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (August 4th) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Rodnes Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Grace Lutheran elevator fund or organ fund. Edith Edna Hedrich was born on December 28, 1920 in Spring Lake Township, Norman County, Minnesota to parents Charley and Emma (Zahn) Hedrich. She grew up and attended rural school through the eighth grade in Spring Lake Township. Following school, she worked as a waitress at the Blue Bird Café in Ada, Minnesota and the Ness Café in Erskine, Minnesota. Edie was united in marriage to Leon Trandem on March 9, 1946 at the Maple Lake parsonage. After their marriage, they moved to Detroit, Michigan where Edie worked as a waitress and Leon worked as a carpenter. They returned to Erskine in September of 1948, and began operating an existing café on October 1. On July 15, 1949, they opened their new café known as Leon and Edie's which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1986. They continued to live at their home in Erskine until Edie moved to the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine in March of 2007. She was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid for many years. She enjoyed sewing and baking and spending time with her family. Edith "Edie" Trandem passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center at the age of 87 years, seven months and one day. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Leon of Erskine; four children, Steven and his wife, Susan, of Bemidji, MN, Wayne of Erskine, Bruce of Erskine, and Dawn Richards and her husband, John of Hawley, MN; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; five sisters, Lorraine Nelson of Halstad, MN, Helen Nelson of Hillsboro, ND, Dorothy Hanson of Ada, MN, Marcella Olson of Crosby, MN, Evelyn (Alvin) VonHoldt of Hoyt Lakes, MN; one brother, Orville "Billy" Hedrich of Hill City, MN; sisters-in-law, Ellen Hedrich of Fertile, MN and Gloria Clemenson of West Fargo, ND. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clarence, Conrad, Walter, Armond, and infant brothers, Lloyd and Edwin; sisters, Edna Sannes, Irene Gade, and infant sisters, Alice and Lillie; and one half sister, Florence Lindstrom.Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Leon and Edie's former employees.Active Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Mark Trandem, Casey Trandem, Erin Brunsvold, Kenny Trandem, Sam Trandem, Jody Trandem, Ben Richards, Sara Koppelman, Katie Richards, and Angie Richards.
