Born March 27th, 1947 to parents Harold and Marie (Brickweg) Christen, in Melrose Minnesota.

Duane's early life in Monticello involved: school, working on farms and playing with many cousins and friends in the area. Duane lived in Monticello until 1963 when the family moved to Fosston. He graduated from Fosston High School in 1965 where he was a participant in football, basketball, and baseball during his high school career.

Duane joined the Air Force in 1966 and served his country in the Vietnam War. He spent a portion of his service time at a radar station in Baudette, MN until his honorable discharge in 1970.

After service, Duane returned to Fosston where he met and married Susan (Frethem) in 1974: three children were born to this union.  On top of the joy, he had from being a dad, he enjoyed being active in the community and had a drive to organize activities and events. Over the years he was active in the Fosston Lions Club, Hospital Board, American Legion, Fosston City council, All School Reunion Chairperson, President of Fosston Jaycees Club, and Fosston Community Club. He was also a proud business owner in the community for more than 20 years.

Duane was known for organizing an annual golf trip with his friends. He also loved setting up Poker nights that were known as “Christian Fellowship Nights” for many years.

Duane had many fond memories to share of coaching Baseball and coaching Amy’s youth basketball. He loved to play in Golf, Softball and participate in the Bagley Bowling league.

Duane enjoyed family gatherings where he could visit and play card games. Of course, Duane was always scheming to set up pranks during these events that were always enjoyed.

Through the many activities Duane participated in he met many dear friends that meant the world to him. Being involved with these activities put a “pep” in his step. These were some of his best days that he would reminisce about. He Loved telling stories about comical things that would happen and memorable moments.
