Doris Darby, age 73, from Fosston, MN passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1st at McIntosh Senior Living in McIntosh, MN after a long bout with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8th at 2:00 PM at New Journey Church in Fosston with Pastor Skip Hansen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Fosston, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of memorials or flowers the family asks that donations be made to the local Humane Society. Messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.comA long time Fosston, MN area resident Doris Iola Peterson was born November 12, 1937 to Leonard M. and Vera Gladys (Strickland) Peterson in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Raised in Des Moines, IA, she graduated with the class of 1956 from North High School in Des Moines, IA and began working as a bookkeeper for Highland Bank. During this time she met and married Clarence Darby. To this union three children were born. Doris and her family moved to Lengby, MN in 1969 and began farming. She began working as a bookkeeper for the Fosston Co-Op Elevator Association in 1982. Upon selling the farm she moved to Fosston and continued working for the Fosston Co-op Elevator until her retirement in 2002. After retiring, she continued her hobbies and love of animals, solving puzzles and reading mystery novels. Doris passed away peacefully on September 1, 2011 in McIntosh, MN after a long bout with cancer at the age of 73 years.She is survived by sons - William Darby and wife Michelle (San Antonio, TX) and David Darby and wife Akiko (Seoul, South Korea), daughter - Lora Johnson (Bemidji, MN), sisters - Patricia Kurschinski (Des Moines, IA) and Norma Wagner (Ankeny, IA), brother - Marvin Davis (Prescott, AZ), 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, and her sisters Jean Hopkins and Evelyn Caquelin.
