Donna Salvhus, age 74 of St. Cloud, MN passed away on Sunday (November 2nd) at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday (November 8th) at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Gordon Syverson officiating. Interment will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (November 7th) at the McIntosh Community Center. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh. Messages of condolence may be shared at carlinhoialmen.com.Donna Lorain Axelson was born on July 6, 1940 in Crookston, Minnesota to parents Royal Axelson and Alice (Beauchene) Axelson. As a schoolgirl growing up in Crookston, Donna helped out on the family farm and assisted her mother in creating costumes for the annual winter shows in Crookston.Donna married Andrew Throndson Salvhus on November 27, 1957. They raised their three daughters in Michigan, Minnesota and North Dakota. After their youngest graduated from high school, Donna and Andy relocated to Alaska, where they enjoyed the natural splendor of the Alaskan territory and its peoples. When they left Alaska, they spent a few years in the Pacific Northwest before retiring to Minnesota. They were living in St. Cloud when Andrew passed away in 2002. Donna remained in St. Cloud until 2012 when she moved to Fargo, ND.Donna was creative and resourceful, making life interesting and memorable for those around her. She enjoyed sewing, cake decorating, reading and rosmaling. A talented baker and seamstress, Donna sewed wedding and bridesmaid's dresses and created the wedding cakes for all three of her daughters. This was quite a feat considering that much of the work two Minnesota weddings was performed for while she and Andy were living in Alaska. Above all, Donna enjoyed spending time with her family.Donna passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo at the age of 74 years.Survivors include her three daughters, Jennifer (Ken) Benzel, Cheryl (Glen) Meyer, and Cynthia (Steven) Curtis; three grandchildren, Thess Benzel, Emily Meyer and Clarissa Meyer; two siblings, Louise Hoff and Linda (Fred) Elsnau.Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Andrea Axelson and Elly Axelson, Betty (Bill) Bingham, and Laura Evans. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three siblings, Bob Axelson, Carol Schwede, and Dick Axelson; and brothers-in-law, Hilmer "Red" Hoff and Frank Schwede.
