Dixie Holen, age 63, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Friday (March 2nd) at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND with her family at her side. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (March 10th) at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Pastor Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Interment will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (March 9th) and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. All visitation will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Dixie was born on March 10, 1948. She graduated Dilworth High School in 1966. She graduated Bemidji State University with a teaching degree. From there she began a 35 year long teaching career in Special Education at the McIntosh-Winger School/Win-E-Mac. After retiring from teaching she started working as a Guardian at Litem for the 9th Judicial District from January 2006 until the time of her illness. She also served on the Private Industry Council as Chair for 14 years. Dixie's interests included spending time with her family first and foremost, Youth Council, Center of Independent Living, Advocacy for Children, and cooking for others and shopping. Dixie loved the famous quote "When I stand before God at the end of my life I would hope that I would have not a single bit of talent left and could say I used everything you gave me." She did just that. A gift she possessed was her natural ability to touch the lives of so many students and children and bring out their special talents and helped them shine. On Friday, March 2, 2012, Dixie Holen, at the age of 63, passed peacefully in her sleep at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND with her loved ones by her side, husband of 43 years Richard, John (son), Tracee (daughter), David (brother), Kermit (son-in-law) and Tara (John's girl friend).Dixie is also survived by her grandchildren, Brady and Brandon Tucker, and her loved ones, Marsha Groth, Myron (Lillian) Holen, Arvid (Ann) Holen, Gary (Mary) Holen, Shirley See, and Jean Holen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Eldon and Doris Groth, rural Lisbon, ND.
