Diane Kappedal

Diane Kappedal, age 72, of Lengby, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1^st, at her home with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9^th, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Ragan officiating. Interment will be in Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lengby. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston. Diane Valerie Aspen was born on February 1, 1951, in Mahnomen, Minnesota to Lorentz and Edith Aspen and raised by Ed and Annie Volker. She grew up in Fosston attended Fosston High School. While in school, she worked at the Cozy Café and The Little Café in Fosston that Volker’s owned.

Diane was united in marriage to Berendt Kappedal on September 15, 1969, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. They lived in town Lengby for a short time before moving to their home just west of Lengby where they have resided since.

Diane did housekeeping and cleaning for many years. She first worked for Daisy Hagen at the Daisy Motel in Fosston, for Intercounty Community and then as an independent cleaner. She also worked the potato harvest for many years. After retirement, Diane and Berendt liked to spend a couple of the winter months in Arizona.

Diane liked hunting, swimming, camping at Pine Lake, 4-wheeling, planting and tending to her flowers, embroidery and crocheting. Her favorite times were spent with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Berendt Kappedal, Jr, of Lengby; her children, Shawn Kappedal (Connie Arnold) of Fosston, Dawn Iverson (Rudy Martinez) of Rock Springs, WY, and Melissa (Shane) Sundquist of Gonvick, MN; grandchildren, Tiffany Benson (fiancé Marshall Jesme) of Thief River Falls, MN, Brianna Benson of Bemidji, MN, Shania Christianson of Fosston, Chantel (Seth) Rupprecht of Thief River Falls, MN, and Kaden Kappedal (fiancé, Rebeka Ware) of Fosston; great grandchildren, Landen Benson and Brayden Benson of Bemidji, MN, Ava Sharp of McIntosh/Thief River Falls, MN, Trexen Olson of Bagley, MN, Hudsen Christianson of Fosston, Valerie Benson of Thief River Falls, MN, Clayton Rupprecht & Baby Boy Rupprecht due August of Thief River Falls, MN, and many other siblings and extended family she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lorentz Aspen and Edith Sherer, and Ed and Annie Volker; her two sisters, Elouise Olson and Anita Klinke; and her grandson, Trandem Kappedal.
