DeLoris Doak, age 84, of Mentor, MN and formerly of Fertile, MN, passed away on Monday (January 5th) at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (January 10th) at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile with the Rev. Carl Hansen officiating. Interment will be in Varnes Lutheran Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.DeLoris Berhow was born on March 22, 1924 at rural Fertile, Minnesota to parents August and Alma (Overland) Berhow. She grew up in the Fertile area and graduated from Fertile High School in 1943. Following school, DeLoris moved to Seattle, Washington where she worked in a bank, as a model, and in the shipyards during World War II.She was united in marriage to Donald Doak on June 16, 1951. After their marriage, they lived in California and DeLoris stayed home, raising her children. When her children were older, she was employed at the state psychiatric hospital. Donald passed away on January 30, 1971 and DeLoris returned to Fertile in the summer of 1972. DeLoris was a cook in the Fertile School for many years until her retirement in the mid 1980's. Since 1983, she has been living at rural Mentor.She was a past member of Varnes Lutheran Church of rural Fertile and a current member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile. DeLoris loved flowers, reading, playing cards, crafts, and painting. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. DeLoris passed away on Monday, January 5, 2009 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston at the age of 84 years, nine months and 14 days.Survivors include two daughters, Connie (John) Egstad of Crookston, and Cindy Hanson of Mentor, and son-in-law, David Hanson of Mentor; one son, Clinton (Penny) Doak of Roberts, MT; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Doak of Crookston; eight grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; one brother, Muret Berhow of Fertile; and one sister, Carna Russell of Olympia, WA; two sisters-in-law, Stella Berhow of Fertile, and Corrine Berhow of Fertile. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Gary; her parents; two brothers, Marvin and Leon Berhow; and two sisters, Bernice Engelstad and Arlene Blewett.Honorary Pallbearers will be DeLoris's grandchildren-Kellye Everson, Heather Crain, Donald Hanson, Jason Hanson, Steve Doak, Christopher Doak, Nicole Doak and Dannille Doak.
