Dean Larsen, age 91, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Thursday, November 11th, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20th, at Poplar Lake Lutheran Church, rural Fosston, with the Rev. Andrew Virkus officiating. Interment will be in the Duane Cemetery, Heier Township, rural Fosston. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Dean Randolph Larsen was born on December 6, 1929, in Beaulieu, Minnesota to parents Arthur and Cordelia (Smith) Larsen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Dean entered the United States Army and served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the area.
Dean was united in marriage to Shirley Ford on June 19, 1955. They lived and raised their family in Beaulieu Township. Dean did farming and carpenter work and built several quonsets for area farms.
Dean loved people and enjoyed the family visits, his grandchildren, fishing, deer hunting, driving his 4-wheeler, and "coffee with the guys". He liked dogs and had many throughout the years and liked to name them "Skipper" or "Duke". He also really liked tractors. His H International and 1650 Oliver were his favorites.
He was a member of Poplar Lake Lutheran Church and enjoyed going to church and his church family. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include three children, Randy (Nancy) Larsen of Fosston, Denise (Jim) Johnson of Mahnomen, MN, and Laurie Larsen (Henry "Jr." Treichel) of St. Cloud, MN; seven grandchildren, Melissa, Dana, Crystal, Tiffany, Mitchel, BreeAnna, and BranDan; 15 great grandchildren;
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Shirley, on November 6, 2018; his parents; two brothers, Melvin and Jimmy; and sister, Mercedes Beckstrom.
