David Plante, age 80, of Mentor, MN and formerly of rural Erskine, MN, passed away on Thursday, December 27th, at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4th, at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Alan Arneson officiating. Interment will be in Saron Lutheran Cemetery, rural Erskine, MN, in the spring. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. David Lavern Plante was born on May 26, 1938 in Erskine, Minnesota to parents Vedo and Myrtle (Hunter) Plante. He grew up and attended rural school and high school in Erskine. Following school, he helped on the family farm and spent two years in Montana before returning to the area.David was united in marriage to Lola Mae Brazier on April 9, 1957 in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. After their marriage, they lived and raised their family on their farm north of Erskine. David farmed and worked at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston for 38 years until his retirement in 1997. In 2016, they moved to Mentor where they were currently living. He was an active member of Saron Lutheran Church of rural Erskine. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football and spending time with family. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Lola, of Mentor, MN; one son, Kelly (Jennifer) of Fosston, MN; son-in-law, Jeff Wang of Mentor; three grandchildren, Shane Fladhammer of Fertile, MN, and April and Miranda Plante of Grand Forks, ND; five great grandchildren, Alexis, Saddie, Brooke, Miley, and Kotlen; one brother, Virgil (Jan) Plante of Grand Forks; and two sisters, Violet Cote of Oklee, MN, and Gloria Benedict of Erskine. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brenda Wang; one brother, Richard Plante; and two sisters, Darlene Fjerstad and Joyce Cook.
