Darrell Finseth

April 1, 1934 — February 6, 2018

Darrell Finseth, age 83, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Tuesday, February 6th, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12th, at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh, with the Rev. Jill Torgerson officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, rural McIntosh. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the National Guard Honors Team and arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home of Fosston. Messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com. Darrell Marvin Finseth was born on April 1, 1934 at home near Trail, Minnesota to parents Julian and Elizabeth Christianson Finseth. He was baptized and confirmed at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh. He attended school in Trail and the AC in Crookston. He entered the United States Army in March of 1953 and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge in April of 1956 and returned home. The majority of his working years were spent over the road trucking. He owned and operated his own trucks and also hauled for CD Haugen of Bemidji and LePier's Oil of Fosston. In addition, he did some mechanic work and drove beet truck during harvest time. After his retirement, Darrell stayed busy helping area farmers. He lived in several areas including Fosston, Erskine, Red Lake Falls. Currently, he was residing at McIntosh Senior Living in McIntosh. Darrell was known as a person who spoke his mind and was truly a "jack of all trades". He enjoyed woodworking and made several clocks and pieces of furniture. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening and flowers. Survivors include his children, Rebecca Melcher of Winona, MN, Dan (Mary) of Fargo, ND, Randy (Tracy) of Trail, Beverly (Nick) Fenno of Jamestown, ND, Janet Rand of Moorhead, MN, Jill Finseth of Graham, WA, Richard Finseth of Thief River Falls, MN, Mike (Roxanne) of Thief River Falls, MN, and Christopher Finseth of Crookston, MN. 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lourie and Clarence; and sisters, Hilda Swenson and Elvie Wiberg.
