Daniel Grandbois, age 61, of Fosston, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday (September 5th) at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (September 10th) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Dave Super presiding. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (September 9th) and for one hour prior to the service on Monday. All visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston. Military honors will be provided by the Tangen-Walstom American Legion Post #114 of Fosston. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Daniel Peter Grandbois was born on January 24, 1951 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to parents James and Doris (Abeldgaard) Grandbois. He lived in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota until the age of 12 when he moved with his family to Fosston. He graduated from Fosston High School in 1969. In July of 1969, he entered the United States Marine Corps, serving his country during the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, Dan received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Rifle Expert Badge. He received his honorable discharge in April of 1971 and returned briefly to Fosston before moving to Alaska. There he worked on the Trans Alaskan Pipeline. He also spent time in Seattle, Washington and on the Hawaiian Islands working construction prior to his returning to Fosston in the late 1980's. Since that time, he has worked various construction jobs in Fosston and the surrounding area.Dan liked playing golf and spending time with friends and family. He will be dearly missed.Dan passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at his home near Fosston at the age of 61 years, seven months and 12 days.He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Tom Grandbois of Fosston, Marcia Dearman of Spokane, WA, Charlotte (Steve) Olson of Chaska, MN, Kathleen (Bob) Drellack of Fosston, Ivy Burggraf of Nashwauk, MN, Gemma (Larry) Scott of Fosston, Theresa (Willis) Ihrke of Lengby, MN, Mike (Kathy) Grandbois of Fosston, and Debbie (Michael) Balluff of Ramsey, MN; brother-in-law, Bruce Haugen of Fosston. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
