Dallas Haugen, age 63, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Sunday (November 27th) at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (December 3rd) at Elim Lutheran Brethren Church in Clearbrook, MN with the Rev. Adam Krog officiating. Interment will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Gully, MN. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the Gonvick American Legion Post #304. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Dallas Ray Haugen was born on January 17, 1948 in Bagley, Minnesota to parents Orville and Elaine (Peterson) Haugen. He was baptized and confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church. He lived most of his life in the Clearbrook, Gonvick and Gully areas. He attended the Clearbrook-Gonvick school until the ninth grade. He received his GED later in life; an accomplishment of which he and his family were very proud.Dallas was drafted into the United States Army on January 16, 1968 and proudly served 1 year, 7 months and 21 days in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from service on October 5, 1969. On August 30th, 1975, Dallas was united in marriage to Cynthia Vogel and they were blessed with three wonderful children. After marriage, he worked a number of different jobs, including Bunge Corporation and for various farmers in Northern Minnesota. After struggling with alcoholism for many years, Dallas gained sobriety on October 3rd, 2000. He credited this and all the good in his life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His last place of employment was the Douglas Place Halfway House as the head of maintenance, from which he retired in May of 2010. In November of 2010, the Douglas Place dedicated their library in his honor. After retirement Dallas enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and had recently moved back to the area to be closer to his family and friends.Dallas is survived by his children, Lisa (John) McKinney, Jason (Jenny) Haugen, and Shelly Haugen, all of Erskine; former wife, Cynthia Vogel Haugen of Erskine; siblings, David (Debra) of Taylors Falls, MN, Delaine (Bill) Bjerke of Savage, MN, Diane (Gary) Dawson of Prior Lake, MN, Darrell (Jenny Titus) of Shevlin, MN, Dale of Owatonna, MN, Gary of Prior Lake, MN, Gerald (Stephanie) of Farmington, MN, Glen (Carol) of Elk River, MN, Gloria (Greg) Peterson of Alexandria, MN, Orvin of Gully, MN, and Owen (Julie) of Gonvick, MN; grandchildren, Austin, Ashley, and Madelyn McKinney and Rylee, Presley, and Jayden Haugen. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Elaine Haugen; and aunt, Doris Larson.Honorary Pallbearers will be Eddie Shaw and all of Dallas's brothers.
