Dale Hextell, age 80, of Lengby, MN, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday (December 22nd) at Essentia Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday (December 27th) at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lengby with the Rev. Mark Faugstad officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Spring Lake V.F.W. Post #2759 of Lengby. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Dale Eugene Hextell was born October 5, 1931 on a farm near Lengby, MN, to Bernard and Elvera (Wahl) Hextell. He grew up in Lengby, and attended school at the Antell country school and furthered his education at the Crookston Agricultural College.He was active in the Naval Reserves from 1950 to1952 and then enlisted into the United States Marine Corps from 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954 after serving in the Korean War. He was an active Lifetime member of VFW Post 2759 during this time he served as Commander several times as well as Drill Sergeant for 29 years.He married Mildred Freyholtz on June 26th, 1952 in Bejou, MN together they had seven children; Cheryl, Jeanette, Cindy, Roger, Roxanne, Mitchell, and Rachel. They made their home south of Lengby where they raised sheep, cattle and small grains up until his passing.Dale was a very skilled jack of all trades, including welding and creating machinery at "Oak Crest Mfg", grading and snowplowing township and county roads for 20 years, and selling snowmobiles. He especially enjoyed bulldozing jobs and was known for helping neighbors with any type of repair needs. Dale looked forward to visiting with friends and neighbors. He had a very playful sense of humor, enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren to play whist and the art of arm wrestling. Dale looked forward to the camaraderie of deer hunting season each fall. He also loved the companionship of his dogs, especially his dog Laddie. In his later years he enjoyed reading Louie Lamour books, and watching the History Channel.Dale passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Essentia Health in Fosston, MN at 80 years of age.He is lovingly remembered by his wife Mildred, daughters Cheryl (Brian) Schafer of Grand Forks, ND, Jeanie (Marshall) Kostka of Frazee MN, Cindy Kulzer of Fifty Lakes,MN, son Roger (Rhonda Larson) Hextell of Lengby,MN , daughter Roxanne (Jack) Milender, son Mitchell Hextell of Lengby, MN, and daughter Rachel (Tim) Kipp of Cut Bank, MT; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, Sister Connie, brothers Harry and Homer.
