Clifford Johnson

Clifford Johnson, age 94, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Friday (July 31st) at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (August 3rd) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Dovre Cemetery, rural Winger, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (August 2nd) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Clifford George Johnson was born on July 10, 1915 in Woodside Township, rural Erskine, Minnesota to parents Gust and Carrie (Casperson) Johnson. He attended Maple Grove and Sarah View country schools. He was united in marriage to Lorene Heideman on September 22, 1934. They had five children, Roger, Sharol, Janet, an infant daughter who died at birth, and Vern. Clifford farmed most of his life in Knute Township, raising certified russet potatoes with Reuben Anderson. He retired in 1978 and moved into Erskine. He then worked for Polk County Parks for over 20 years. He lived in Erskine until November of 2006 when he moved to the Pioneer Memorial Care Center. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, hunting deer until he was 90 years old. He and his wife, Lorene, sang at many occasions in the community.Clifford passed away on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center at the age of 94 years and 21 days.He is survived by his children, Roger (Marlene) Johnson, Sharol (Sharon) Johnson and Janet (Bennett) Hamre, all of Erskine; and Vern (Patti) Johnson of Grygla, MN; 13 grandchildren, Randy (Michelle) Johnson, Kim (Paul) Mahlen, Denice (Allen) St. Michel, Mikki Johnson, Steve Johnson, Stacy (Robert) Knudson, Sheila (Kip) Fontaine, Shawn (Ann) Hamre, Kent (Angie) Hamre, Heidi (Eddie) Gose, Mandi (Ronnie) Lund, Carrie Johnson, and Bret Johnson; 24 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Holt and Lorraine Frantz; sister-in-law, Ruby Heideman; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorene in 1995; infant daughter; grandson, Scot Johnson; brother, Wallace; and sister, Alice Farder; sister-in-law, Margaret Johnson; brothers-in-law, Ogden Farder, George Holt and Merle Frantz.He will be greatly missed by all of us.
