Charles E. "Charlie" Goldsmith, age 83, from Fosston, MN passed away on Wednesday, March 3rd at his home in Fosston. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6th, at the United Methodist Church in Fosston with the Rev. Sarah Lawton officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.Charles Edward Goldsmith was born on March 5, 1926 in Joliette, North Dakota to parents Charles and Lulu Mae (Nelson) Goldsmith. He moved with his family to Fosston where he grew up and attended school. He joined the United States Navy in 1941. After the service, he traveled around the country working as a wrestler. He was married to Betty Dunning and they had two daughters, Linda and Sandra and to another marriage a son, Charles, was born. Charlie was married to Virginia Gerhartz in 1959. They lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before moving to Minneapolis in 1961. In 1965, they returned to Milwaukee. Charlie worked construction and also owned his own roofing business. In 1986, Charlie retired and moved to Lengby, Minnesota. He moved to Fosston in 2007.Charlie enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing cards at the V.F.W. in Lengby on Wednesday evenings, and helping people. He watched over the Lengby Lake Park and managed the Fosston skating rink. Charlie passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at his home in Fosston at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 26 days.Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Milwaukee and their five children, Dawn Goldsmith of Milwaukee, Cynthia (Jim) Greer of Milwaukee, Clifford Goldsmith of Milwaukee, Charles, Jr. (Mona) Goldsmith of Fosston and Lyle Goldsmith of Milwaukee; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Naastad of Lengby; sister-in-law, Sharon Goldsmith of Lengby; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Gordon; sisters, Muriel, Beverly, and Pearl; and nephew, Dean Goldsmith.
