Carl Virant, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 3rd at McIntosh Senior Living in McIntosh, MN. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6th at 1:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston, MN with Pastor Craig Wanamaker officiating. Interment of cremains will be at Brandsvold Cemetery, rural Fosston. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston assisted the family with the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Carl Virant was born in Aurora, Minnesota, on November 13, 1926 to John Virant and Rose (Strukel) Virant, the last of ten children.. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1944, then enlisted in the United States Navy. After his service to his country, he enrolled at Virginia Junior College and later obtained a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1951. He then was hired by Reserve Mining Company where he was employed for the next thirty four years in various capacities.Carl lived in Babbitt, Minnesota until 1958 when he moved to Silver Bay where he resided until moving to Sun Lakes, Arizona, in 1985 upon his retirement. He then moved to McIntosh, Minnesota in 2010.Carl is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Rosemary Kammerer, in February, 1964, and by his second wife, Minnie (Mienert) Wanamaker in April, 2010. He is also preceded in death by his brothers John Baumbich, Joseph Baumbich, Edward Virant, and Frank Virant, and sisters Rose Virant, Molly Saniuk, Anne Mismash, and Florence Holland.He is survived by his children Craig (and Kristi) Wanamaker and Mark (and Jodi) Virant; his grandchildren Nick Wanamaker and Timothy and Carolyn Wanamaker, and Kevin Virant and Jenna (Virant) Christie.Carl loved to golf, play bridge, sing in the church choir, travel, and follow his beloved Minnesota Vikings. He was loved as a husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed.
