Byron "Bud" Ostgard, age 94, from Mentor, MN passed away on Friday, January 30th at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, February 4th at 3:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. A visitation period for family and friends will be held for one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date at the Fertile City Cemetery in Fertile, MN and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Byron Gerald Ostgard Sr. was born on December 19, 1914 in Tilden Township, rural Mentor, MN to Ole Ostgard, but was raised by his grandparents John and Brita Ostgard. Growing up he attended school in rural Fertile, MN and he loved farming and raising horses.On December 19, 1936 Bud married Doris Jensrud and together they farmed and raised their family in rural Mentor. For a short period of time Bud and Doris were in Hibbing, MN where Bud worked in the iron mines. In 1978 they started wintering in Mission, TX and continued that until Doris' death in 2000.Bud was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor.On Friday, January 30, 2009 Byron "Bud" Ostgard passed away at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN at the age of 94 years.He is survived by two daughters, Karen (Peder) Larson of Warren, MN and Susan (Milton) Reck of Mentor; grandchildren, Leslie Ostgard, Jerry (Lori) Ostgard, Shelly (Dan) Nowakowski, Deanna (Lance) McFarland, Todd (Becky) Larson, Tim (Stacey) Larson, Kurt (Bethany) Reck, and Christopher (Chasity) Reck; 18 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; half brother, John; half sister, Pat; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; son, Byron Jr.; grandson, Michael Ostgard; and his parents.
