Brian Carlson, age 67, of Gonvick, MN, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at First Care Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston, MN. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Lund Lutheran Church in Gully, MN with Dawn Hanson, LLM officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Lund Lutheran Cemetery in Gully, and arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Brian Luther Carlson was born on July 31, 1946 in Fosston, Minnesota, to parents Bennie and Irene (Gunderson Nelson) Carlson. He grew up on the farm at Gully, Minnesota, and attended Gully Grade School through 8th grade. He graduated from Gonvick High School in 1964. Brian attended AVTI in Thief River Falls, Minnesota before joining the North Dakota Army National Guard, where he served from February 6, 1967 to February 5, 1973 with the 818th Engineer Company. After his service, he returned to AVTI and graduated from the carpentry program in 1971. After graduation he worked carpentry throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. Later, he joined the Millwright Union (United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America) working on the Iron Range and many other places. He truly believed in "Made In America".Brian was baptized at Lund Lutheran Church on October 4, 1946 by Reverend M.E. Arneson. He was also confirmed at Lund Lutheran Church, and was a lifelong member. He was a member and past Commander of American Legion Post 603 in Gully, as well as a member of the Sons of Norway 240 Granlund Lodge in Fosston. He enjoyed woodworking, living at his lake home, and spending time on his farmland. He also enjoyed sports and visiting with his friends.On Wednesday, July 2, 2014 Brian passed away at First Care Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston at the age of 67.Survivors include one daughter, Saffrona Irene Carlson; one brother, David (Patty) Carlson and one sister, Nancy (Richard) Lee, both of Gully; nephew, Mark Lee of Gully; two nieces, Michelle (Tim) Nordlund of Rice, MN, and Pam Dyrdahl of Bemidji, MN; great-nephew Joshua Lee; as well as other relatives.He was preceded in death by his parents; two nephews, Patrick Lee and Darrin Carlson; and great-niece, Miranda Grace Lee.
