Bonnie Thurk

Bonnie Thurk, age 82, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Friday, November 22nd, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston with the Rev. Gene Lilienthal officiating. Interment will be in Cross Lake Cemetery, rural Fosston, at a later date. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cross Lake Cemetery Fund.

Bonnie was born on August 13, 1942 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota to parents Raymond and Dorothy (Henning) Mason. 

Bonnie’s family moved to Annandale, Minnesota, where she lived some of her teenage years with the Joseph and Charlotte Twedt family. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale.

She met Lyle Thurk, and they were united in marriage on May 7, 1960 and had two children, Scott and Lana. 

The family moved to rural Fosston, Minnesota in 1976, and she worked at several different jobs, but her most memorable was working at Stinar’s Nursery, Bagley, Minnesota, which she talked about often. Bonnie loved to crochet, read books, garden, visit with her family, and their dog Fred.

Bonnie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lyle; children, Scott Thurk of Fosston and Lana (Craig) Sander of Fosston; grandchildren, Marie Sander, Kelly (Mark) Elton and Annette (Adam) Seed; great grandchildren, Abigail, Mason, Elsa, Bjorn and Freya; brother, Ray Mason of Maple Lake, MN; sisters, Julie (George) Bursch of Richmond, VA and Joan Schuur of Princeton, MN; in-laws, Darrel (Joann) Thurk of Nashwauk, MN, Dean (Glenda) Thurk of Annandale, MN and Arlene Smith of Becida, MN. Nieces, nephews and other family members also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Johnny and Kenny; and sisters, Edith, Betty, Dorene, Jeannie Rae-Loren and Marlys.
