Betty Lou Bakken, age 94, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Saturday, June 17th, at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22nd, at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Interment will be in Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lengby. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Betty Lou Berry was born on February 26, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents Basil and Thelma (Duncan) Berry. As a child, she moved with her family to Lengby, Minnesota where she grew up and attended rural school. After her schooling, Betty Lou worked various jobs in the area.
She was united in marriage to Harvey Bakken and together they lived and farmed south of Lengby. She moved to Fosston in 1977 and has resided there since that time.
In addition to working on the farm, Betty Lou worked at Dahl’s Lefse in Lengby and as a nurse’s aide at the Fosston Municipal Nursing Home and First Care Nursing Home for over 25 years until her retirement in 1993.
She enjoyed sewing, being outdoors and outdoor activities, traveling, games, playing cards, and, in later years, puzzles. She was attending Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston and participated in the Spring Lake V.F.W. Auxiliary of Lengby for many years. Betty Lou lived a very full life up until recently, spending just a short time at Essentia Health Living Center prior to her passing.
Survivors include her four children, Gary (Mirab) Bakken of Bagley, MN, Barb (Daniel) Roi of Rosemount, MN, Sharon Weston of Grand Forks, ND, and Lori (Steve) Munter of Conifer, CO; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Kerry) Brees, Jason Roi, Matthew (Tina) Munter, Autumn (Zakk) Linville, and Camron Munter; six great grandchildren, Keith, Jazz, Christopher, Dillon, Aubrie, and Beau. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Linda Diane Bakken; son, Marvin Bakken; grandson, Christopher Pederson; twin brother, Billy Berry; and siblings, Barry Emerson Berry and Wanda Lee Wilson.
