Betty Abeldgaard

Betty Abeldgaard, age 78, from rural Lengby, MN passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston, MN. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Dave Super officiating. A private interment will be held at Poplar River Cemetery, Fosston, at a later date. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com. Betty Lou Abeldgaard, the daughter of Edwin and Leona (Fish) Bjornerud was born February 11, 1934 in Fosston, Minnesota. Betty attended Fosston High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. Throughout her high school career she enjoyed being a cheerleader. On June 28, 1952 Betty was united in marriage to Harold Abeldgaard at the Catholic Church in Fosston. Harold and Betty have lived and raised their family in the Lengby area since that time. Betty had various jobs throughout her married life, such as working for Overboe Motors and a cafe both in Fargo, ND., for the bank in Fosston and as the clerk for Abeldgaard Auctions for many years. After her husband retired from the auctioneer business, Betty worked at the Bluegill Cafe in Lengby until her health prevented her from doing so. Betty enjoyed genealogy, refinishing furniture, collecting antiques, painting, knitting, playing bingo and going to the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, MN. Also, Betty enjoyed making bread bag rugs and giving them to family members. She loved animals especially dogs and spent every day with her loyal chihuahuas Sassy, Mitzi and Tootsie by her side. She loved visiting with family and friends that stopped by to see her and especially loved spending time with her great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She and the wisdom she shared will be dearly missed. Betty passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston at the age of 78. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harold Abeldgaard; children, Jeff Abeldgaard of Lengby, MN; Mark (Sara) Abeldgaard of Lengby, MN and Diane (Billy Bushelle) Sherer of Lengby, MN; eight grandchildren, Melissa (Kurt) Ziegler, David (Samantha James) Abeldgaard, Christopher Abeldgaard, Samantha Abeldgaard, Katelynn Abeldgaard, Katie (Andrew Damann Jr.) Sherer, Matthew (Tabitha) Sherer and Daniel (Amanda Tesch) Sherer; seven great grandchildren, Hailey Ziegler, Dawson Abeldgaard, Isabella Johnson, Augustus Damann, Shayla Sherer, Ciara Sherer and coming soon Maci Sherer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Leona (Fish) Bjornerud and one infant son, David and other relatives.Blessed be her memory
