Bernie Tofsly, age 89, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Sunday (June 14th) at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (June 18th) at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, rural McIntosh. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Berner Olander Tofsly was born on February 16, 1920 in Lessor Township, rural McIntosh, Minnesota to parents Gilbert and Tillie (Nesland) Tofsly. Bernie grew up and attended rural school north of McIntosh. He was united in marriage to Doris Johnson on September 27, 1958. After their marriage, they resided and farmed in Lessor Township until his retirement.Bernie was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh. Bernie entered the Mac Manor Nursing Home in April of 2003 where he passed away on June 14, 2009 at the age of 89 years, three months and 29 days.He enjoyed gardening and driving around with his dog, Snoopy.Survivors include one son, John Tofsly of McIntosh; one daughter, Julie (Mike) Quinn of McIntosh; sister, Evelyn Radke of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Julia Urdahl, Terrance Quinn, Jacquelyn Tofsly, and Christopher Tofsly; nephews, Larry (Shirley) Swenson of Glyndon, MN, James Swenson of Fargo, ND, Mark (Alice) Swenson of Barnesville, MN, Daniel (Debra) Swenson of Lake Park, MN, Richard (Carla) Swenson of West Fargo, ND, and Robert (Michelle) Swenson of Glyndon, MN; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris on January 21, 1999; his parents; sisters, Ida Tofsly and Hazel Swenson; nephew, Kevin Swenson; brother-in-law, Paul Radke and several aunts and uncles.
