Bernice Nelson, age 87, from Fosston, MN passed away on Wednesday, November 16th at Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22nd at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Dalen officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Spring Lake V.F.W. Post #2759 of Lengby, MN. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Bernice Lorraine Nelson was born on February 25, 1924 in Pine Lake Township, rural Gonvick, Minnesota to parents Elvin and Anna (Lee) Nelson. She moved to Hill River Township and then to Columbia Township and graduated from Fosston High School in Fosston, Minnesota. Following high school, Bernice went to Chicago where she enlisted in the military. She served in the United States Army Air Force from February of 1944 until she received her honorable discharge in December of 1945. Bernice received the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal.After the service, she went to work in banking as a teller in Minneapolis, Minnesota and later for Lutheran Brotherhood, also in Minneapolis. After her retirement, she moved to Fosston and then to Bagley, Minnesota. On January 11, 1991, she moved to the Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley, Minnesota. She was a long-time member of Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston and the Spring Lake V.F.W. Post #2759 of Lengby, Minnesota. She loved writing letters and following politics. She also enjoyed her nieces and nephews.Bernice passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Twin Valley Living Center at the age of 87 years, eight months and 22 days.Survivors include one brother, Williard "LeRoy" Nelson of Kennewick, WA; nephews, and nieces, Ron Miller, Larry Miller, Mark Nelson, Patty Pike, Lanny Nelson, Julie Sell, Randy Nelson, Robert Farrington, Stefanie Roed, Jack Nelson, Gail Pearson, Jannae Kawalczik, Kendlynn Evje, Forrest Nelson and Carrie Lyons.She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Rosella Disrud and Caroll Farrington; brothers, Norman Nelson, Ernest Nelson and Jerome Nelson; and nephew, Duane Miller.
