Bernice Melugin

Bernice Melugin, age 87, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Monday (November 29th) at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (December 4th) at Saron Lutheran Church, rural Erskine with the Rev. Dale Mellgren officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday (December 3rd) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Bernice Adeline Hanson was born on November 8, 1923 in Erskine, Minnesota to parents Hans and Randine (Sletten) Hanson. She was raised and attended school in Erskine. She moved with her family to Oregon in 1943 where she worked in canneries.In her 20's, Bernice and her sisters moved to Evanston, Illinois where they worked at the Tinkertoy factory and at Munsingwear. Bernice moved back to Oregon several years later where she met and married Lloyd Melugin on October 12, 1963. They lived in Willamina, and McMinnville, Oregon before moving back to Erskine in 1995. They loved to go to local events and attended church at Saron Lutheran Church.Bernice's hobbies included eating at restaurants, scrapbooking, quilting, gardening, and canning. She collected snowmen and also had a large collection of vases.Bernice passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston at the age of 87 years.She is survived by her sister, Ellen Caldwell of Bemidji, MN; brothers, Melvin (Patty) Hanson of Bemidji, MN, Norman (Alberta) Hanson of McIntosh, MN, and Albert (Hazel) Hanson of Bemidji, MN; and nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Doris; sisters, Thelma Bahr and Ruth Pearson; one brother, Herbert Hanson; and her loving husband, Lloyd in 2008.
