Bernice Hanson, age 82, of rural Erskine, MN, passed away on Saturday (April 2nd) at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (April 9th) at Rodnes Lutheran Church, rural Erskine with the Rev. Peter Satren officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Bernice was born on October 7, 1928 in McIntosh, Minnesota to parents Albert and Selma (Midboe) Brekke. She attended Hillside Country School. She went on to attend Hillcrest Academy in Fergus Falls and then Mayville Teacher's College in Mayville, ND. Bernice received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bemidji State University in 1981 in Elementary Education. Bernice was a substitute teacher for elementary schools in the area. Bernice was the Superintendent and a teacher of the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at her church, Rodnes Lutheran, for many years. She was also the church librarian and was active in the Rebecca Circle and WELCA. Bernice was united in marriage to Ervin Hanson on August 20, 1949. Bernice was a loving wife and mother dedicated to her family. As a devoted farm wife, she assisted with the daily chores on the family's dairy farm. She loved cooking, canning fruits & vegetables, gardening, sewing, needlework, scrapbooking and reading. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ervin of Erskine; children Mary Gran (Lloyd) of Erskine, Steve (Mary) of Pasco, WA, Jane Hanson of Woodbury, MN, Nathan of St. Paul, MN and James (Teresa) of Bemidji, MN; grandchildren Gretchen Hanson Gotthard (Dan), Marcus (Katie) Hanson, Sarah Gran Williams (John), Heather Hanson Bates (Dale), Stephanie Hanson, Brooke and Mark Schlotterback. Bernice is also survived by great-grandchildren Sophia, Nicholas, and Olivia Gotthard and Roxie Bates; sister Eleanor Hovland (Melvin); brother-in-law and sister-in-law Donald and Mildred (Brekke) Hansen and sister-in-law Lorraine Brekke, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three children: Tim, Carol, and David; parents, Albert & Selma Brekke; brothers, Lester and Stanley, sisters Ione Hansen and Myrtle Palm; brothers-in-law Cal Palm and Harold Hanson.
