Beatrice "Beatie" Hilliard, age 91, of Lengby, MN, passed away on Sunday, September 1st, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7th, at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby with the Rev. John Ragan officiating. Interment will be in Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lengby. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Beatrice Ardell (Rime) Hilliard was born on July 24, 1928 in Northwood, North Dakota to parents Arvey and Blenda (Peterson) Rime. She grew up in Northwood and graduated from Northwood High School in 1946.Beatie was united in marriage to Milton Hilliard on August 4, 1946. After their marriage, they lived in Lengby and then Coleharbor, North Dakota while Milton worked on the Garrison dam project. The family returned to Lengby and Beatie stayed at home raising their three children, Marilyn, Larry, and Mary. In the early 1960's, she worked at the potato plant in Fosston and then, in 1963, she began employment at the U.S. Post Office in Lengby. She worked there for 28 years, with most of those years serving as Postmaster. She was the first Postmaster in the new post office in Lenbgy prior to her retirement in 1991.Beatie was a devoted servant in her church and community. She was a member of Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby where she was active in ladies' aid, quilting group, and many other activities and events at the church through the years. She volunteered with the "Gray Ladies", a group with the American Red Cross who gave of their time and talents to patients in hospitals, especially during wartime. She had also been a Hospice volunteer, was a member of the Spring Lake V.F.W. Post #2791 Auxiliary of Lengby for over 60 years and the Lengby Improvement Club (LIC) for over 50 years. Beatie was an excellent seamstress, making clothing for her children when they were young as well as Barbie and doll clothing. Beatie enjoyed crocheting, quilting, crafts, scrapbooking, swimming exercises, and was in Bone Builders at Essentia Health. She will be dearly missed.Survivors include three children, Marilyn and "her favorite son-in-law", Don Smith of Lengby, Larry (Sue) Hilliard of Stacy, MN, and Mary Hilliard of Lengby; five grandchildren, Rhonda (Terry) Nelson, Jodi Hanson, Lana (Travis) Huemann, Darin Miller, and Jason Solberg; 13 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and cousins, Carolyn Tangen, Arlette Stanlake, Gordon Peterson, Maurine Peterson, and Lois Peterson.She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton, on June 24, 2009; her parents; and brother, Duane Rime.
