Barbara Ingman

Barbara Ingman, age 65, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Sunday (February 24th) at her home in McIntosh following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (March 1st) at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Aage Carlsen, Rev. Timothy Lundeen and Rev. Steve Trandem officiating. Interment will be in Vernes Lutheran Cemetery, rural McIntosh at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (February 29th) at the McIntosh Community Center. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Barbara Anne (Moen) Ingman was born on October 13th, 1942 in Halstad, Minnesota to parents Alice (Haugen) and Hans Moen who owned a dairy farm east of Nielsville, Minnesota. She was an active member of St. Petri Lutheran Church in Nielsville and an involved member of the local Community Workers 4-H Club for 10 years. She attended elementary school at Nielsville and High School at Halstad MN. Barbara was a teacher of many things. After graduating in 1964 from Concordia College in Moorhead with a Bachelor's degree in English and Spanish, she went on to inspire many students with her gifts teaching these subjects in many schools throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, and Montana during her more than 25-year career as a teacher. She taught in Braham MN, Malta MT, Circle Pines MN, Westby MT, Fairview ND, Oklee-Plummer MN, and most recently teaching at Win-E-Mac High School in McIntosh MN with her valued colleagues, all the while enjoying the challenge of educating countless students. She also shared her teaching gifts abroad with students in Haining, China as a teacher for the Global Language Villages program of Concordia College. Barbara took great pride in her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed sharing her knowledge of the language and culture with others, often by translating letters and recipes from the "Old Country" for friends and family, and passing this pride and knowledge on to her children. On May 31, 1964 she was united in marriage to Milan Ingman of Belfield, ND. Together they served church parishes of the American Lutheran Church (ALC) in Westby, Montana, Sidney Montana, Oklee, MN, and McIntosh, MN. Barbara actively participated by teaching Sunday school, leading Bible studies, and as church organist, accompanist and vocalist. Her husband Pastor Milan Ingman passed away on January 28, 1994. She continued serving the Lord with her love of music, through her involvement in the many church organizations at Immanuel, Grace, Our Saviors and Vernes Lutheran Churches. She enjoyed singing, playing organ and piano, organizing and participating in a great many recitals, concerts, and Easter Cantatas. She shared her love of music with everyone she met including teaching piano lessons for more than 30 years. She was gifted at sewing, needlework, and knitting and enjoyed creating tailor-made clothing, beautiful dresses and quilts, as well as mending nearly anything. Her leadership serving her community as an active member on the McIntosh City Council, Booster Club, and the McIntosh Economic Development Authority made long-lasting contributions to the community. She served on the board of Pioneer Memorial Home for 9 years, and has been involved with the McIntosh Booster Club since 1987. She left this world to be with Jesus Our Savior after an extended and valiant battle with cancer on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at her home in McIntosh at the age of 65 years. Her battle began in 1992 and her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, support and prayers of family and friends, and tenacity allowed her to prevail against all odds to remain in this world as a warrior in the service of God's Army for the benefit of all who knew her and for as long as was gifted by God before calling his angel back to His service. Her unwavering faith in God was an example for all of us. She is survived by four sons; Bradley, Stuart, Alan, Jonathan and his wife, Kristin. Other survivors include her sister Karen (Kermit) Stahn, Morris MN; brother-in-law, Harlan (Patti) Ingman, Killdeer, ND; and sister-in-law, Karen (Gene) Bucholtz, Seattle, WA, eight nieces and nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Pastor Milan Ingman.
