Barbara Henderson

Barbara Henderson, age 79, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Thursday, October 13th, at Medical Center of Aurora South in Aurora, Colorado. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22nd, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Poplar River Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, October 21st, at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Barbara was born in Cass Lake, MN on August 29, 1937 to Harold Larson and Mabel (Olson) Larson, and was the third of six siblings. She moved to Fosston, MN with her family. She graduated from Fosston High School in 1955. After high school, she moved to Washington D.C. with friends, where she took a job as a secretary with the U.S. Department of the Navy. During her two years with the department, she met Roger Karl Henderson, whom she married on October 5, 1957 at United Methodist Church in Washington D.C. During the couples 50 years together, they lived in Washington D.C.; San Francisco (Bay Area), CA; Kearns, UT; Denver CO; North Port, FL; and finally settled in Fosston in 2005. The two had three children, Karen, Billie Jean and Margaret (Peggy). Barbara was a homemaker for 16 years before returning to work part time in retail. Eventually, she took a job with Sears & Roebuck in the catalogue store. She later worked in their accounting department until she retired in 1998. After retiring, Barbara and Roger moved to Florida to be near Rogers family. After three years, they moved to Fosston where Barbara lived her remaining years as an active part of the community. She attended weekly services at Hope Lutheran Church and volunteered many hours with the East Polk Heritage Center and Essentia Health-First Care Living Center. She enjoyed reading, embroidery, quilting, playing Scrabble and electronic card games, baking with family and painting figurines, which she gifted to residents at Essentia Health. She had recently relocated to Colorado to be closer to family. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Henderson and Margaret (Mark) McCreary, granddaughter, Mackenzie (Rocky Huppert) McCreary, one brother, Kenny (Marion) Larson, two sisters, Helen Mae (Alton) Frethem and Carol Smeby, sister-in-law, Phyllis Larson, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mabel Larson, husband, Roger, daughter, Billie Jean, and two brothers, David Larson and Richard (Dick) Larson.
