Armond Sannes, age 88, of McIntosh, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday (May 31st) at his home in McIntosh. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 4th at 2:00 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Rev. Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church, and interment will be at St. John's Cemetery, rural McIntosh. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements.Armond Guy Sannes was born October 1, 1922 at McIntosh, MN the son of Ole and Livie (Aske) Sannes. He was baptized and confirmed member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh and served several terms as president and a number of times on the board of trustees.He was raised in McIntosh and attended both grade school and high school graduating in 1940. While in school he was active in athletics, plays, band and other activities. After high school Armond attended St. Olaf College in Northfield for two years prior to enlisting in the Marine Corps in October 1942. He served in the Marines for three years during WWII.After discharge from the Marine Corps, Armond married Irene Grambo, a high school classmate, on June 9, 1946. They lived in Minneapolis for five years, had two children, David born in Minneapolis and later Marilyn born in Fosston, MN. While in Minneapolis Armond worked for Winston-Newell Company (main office of Super Value Stores), then for Smith Dunn Co., a distributor of truck and bus equipment. The owners of Smith Dunn Company purchased the Erskine Manufacturing Co. in 1950 and in 1951 Armond returned to his home area as manager. Over a period of three years he purchased the company and owned it for twelve years when he sold it to a group of investors from southern Minnesota.During 1963-64 Armond served as District Govenor for Lions International. His District was all of Manitoba, part of Ontario and Northwestern Minnesota. In 1965 Armond purchased the Mac Mills Lumber Company which he had for six years. From there he purchased the Chrysler Plymouth Dealership in McIntosh which he had until his retirement in 1987.In addition to the Lions, Armond was active with the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and served on a number of boards including the School Board for 18 years, Church Board, Garden Valley Board for 27 years plus other various boards and local community committees- McIntosh Centennial, Municipal Building and others. One of his main interests was the Memorial Day Event in which he took part for well over 50 years.Armond and Irene liked to travel and visited every state in the U.S. including Hawaii and Alaska, and they made two trips to Norway. He was also interested in his yard, garden, flying and fellowship with the 9:00 and 3:00 coffee gang, men's morning Bible study group, membership with the Winger Lions Club and during summer months the morning golf sessions. His son Dave would come home summers to play golf with his dad.Armond loved his family and enjoyed many trips and activities with Irene and liked to spend time on the farms with Marilyn, Janelle and Jarrid and family (and the family pets).On Tuesday, May 31, 2011 Armond passed away unexpectedly at his home in McIntosh at the age of 88 years.Armond is survived by his wife, Irene of McIntosh; son, Dave Sannes of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Marilyn Graff of McIntosh; grandson, Jarrid (Alicia) Graff; granddaughter, Janelle Graff; great grandsons, Tanner and Parker; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Pope of Roseville, CA and Avis Grambo of Eau Claire, WI; and brother-in-law, Don Loken of Palm Springs, CA.
