Arlene Barstad

Arlene Barstad, age 73, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Friday, November 11th, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18th, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Arlene Betty Mae Nelson was born on August 11, 1943 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Arthur O. and Mabel (Ostgarden) Nelson. She grew up in Fosston and attended Fosston High School. She married Merle Barstad on August 25, 1962 and together they raised their three sons, Randy, Rorry and James. Arlene worked at the potato plant in Fosston, as a cook at Magelssen Elementary School, and at First Care Hospital in Fosston in the Dietary Department until her retirement. Merle passed away on July 29, 2013. Her greatest joy came with spending time with family and friends. She will be dearly missed. Arlene passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota at the age of 73 years and three months. Survivors include her three sons, Randy of Minnetonka, MN, Rorry (Melissa) of Cologne, MN, and James (Kim) of Fosston; her sister, Bonnie (Robert) Evje of Fertile, MN; grandchildren, Steven Barstad, Sara Barstad, Nicole Barstad, Sean Barstad, Catelin Barstad, Kylee Barstad, Connor Barstad, Christina Barstad, Mariah Manecke, Heather Barstad, and Caden Barstad; great grandchildren, Wyatt Mueller, Aiden Grindeland, Matthew Barstad, Kayley Krohnfeldt, Emma Barstad, Ryder Barstad, Liam Barstad and Aleah Barstad.
