Amber Schabacker

Amber Schabacker, age 91, of Mentor, MN, passed away on Monday, September 5th, at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12th, at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston with the Rev. Michael Sletto officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Amber Frances Sims Schabacker was born on January 26, 1925 in Bristol Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to parents Elmer and Eunice Copeman Sims. She grew up in several areas, including Fertile and Maple Bay while her father worked as a carpenter. Amber was united in marriage to Walter H. Schabacker on September 29, 1943 in McIntosh, Minnesota. After their marriage, they lived in Illinois for several years before moving to Mentor in 1971. Walt, Sr. passed away on April 6, 1995. Amber continued to live in Mentor until December of 2008 when she became a resident of Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor where she was active in Ladies Aid and she loved to work in the garden. She is survived by five children, Walt (Chick) Schabacker, Jr. of Bejou, MN, Susie Mashburn of East Grand Forks, MN, Curt (Karen) Schabacker of Colorado, Wendy (Steve) Dunn of Colorado, and Dale Schabacker of Winger, MN; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 15 great great grandchildren; one brother, Ted (Marvel) Sims of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Gerry Reynolds of Pleasanton, CA. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and brothers, Curtis, Pershing, Jack and Bud Sims; and sisters, Gaylle Lerfeld, LaVonne Frette, Helen Solberg, Doreen Romeo, and Eileen Largis.
