Alvin Nordheim, age 75, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Friday, June 8th, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14th, at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine, at a later date. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Alvin Leroy Nordheim was born on March 9, 1943 in Bemidji, Minnesota to parents Ivel and Ardella Bangs Nordheim. The family moved to Maple Bay, Minnesota and Al graduated from Fertile High School in 1961. After high school, Al started working at Nordheim Roofing, the company his dad and uncle started. He then worked at Forsell's Truck Stop in Erskine and, at that time, began driving truck for Gordy Morberg.In January of 1962, Al married Sandy Peterson at Grace Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas. While living in Erskine, their sons were born, Rick and Rory. Al began barber school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After graduating and moving to Alexandria, Minnesota, he rented a chair at Cyril's Barber Shop. In 1967, his daughter, Ronell, was born. In 1971, the family returned home to Erskine and Al purchased Emil Gran's barber shop. He barbered for seven additional years before beginning work as a millwright, which he did for 25 years. He retired in 2001 to continue his hobby of buying cars, tractors, tools... He loved working on old cars and tractors, especially his Cockshutt tractors. Al loved to go to any auction, and he went to many; he was always looking for a great deal on a car, truck, tractor or tools or to see what treasure he could find. He and Sandy loved traveling with friends and their grandkids to car shows, swap meets and Threshing B's all over Minnesota and Wisconsin. Al enjoyed and was a member of the Highway 2 Cruisers and The Crookston Car Club for many years; He retired from the Erskine Volunteer Fire Department after 25 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sandy, of Erskine; two sons, Rick of Erskine and Rory (Kim) of Thief River Falls; one daughter, Ronell (Doug) Raney of Hopkins, MN; grandchildren, Allison (Zach) Hilgendorf, Abigail, Alexsandra and Angela Raney, and Bailee and Morgan Nordheim; step grandchildren, Kyle and Chelsey Vettleson and Hannah (Brett) Gerardy; great grandchildren, Olivia and Graham Vettleson; one sister, Iris Krabbenhoft; sisters-in-law, Marion Nordheim, Shirley (Woots) Jensen and Sheila (Chet) Etzler; and brother-in-law/best friend, Keith Peterson. Many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Whiskey.He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Cunningham; brother Ivel "Sonny" Nordheim; and other relatives.
