Alvin Ruben Miller was born on September 5, 1915 in Hill River Township, Minnesota to parents Oscar and Clara (Halvorson) Miller. He grew up and attended rural school in Hill River Township.He was united in marriage to Gladyce Salvhus on February 17, 1936. After their marriage, they lived on a farm in Hill River Township, north of McIntosh. They lived there until moving to the Miller family farm where they lived for the next 35 years. Alvin and Gladyce moved into Fosston in 1980. Together, they moved to First Care Nursing Home in Fosston in January of 2004. This past February, Alvin and Gladyce celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.During his working years, Alvin first worked for his brother, Nordin, driving truck. He also worked on the Iron Range and at the Fosston Flaking Plant. His main calling, though, was farming, which he did for many years. Alvin farmed for several years with Orvin Sundrud until his retirement. He had a special love for horses. He enjoyed gardening, visiting with neighbors and friends, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston.Alvin passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 91 years.Survivors include his two children, Barb (Nordin) Brinkman, and Richard (Lynette) Miller, all of Fosston; 9 grandchildren, Paul, Mark, Tammy, Nancy, Allan, Lori, Brenda, Michael and Daniel; 16 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Donna Miller of Fosston; two sisters-in-law, Rosella Disrud and Ethel Miller, both of Fosston; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladyce on March 3, 2007; his son, Roger; his parents; grandson, Steve; and three brothers and one sister.
