Alvin Comer, age 86, of Mentor, MN, passed away on Tuesday (November 16th) at Riverview Nursing Home in Crookston, MN. A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday (November 22nd) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Dave Super presiding. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Fosston. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Alvin Walter Comer was born on September 11, 1924 in rural Cheyenne, North Dakota to parents Archie and Mollie Mae (Taylor) Comer. He grew up in the Cheyenne area and attended Twin Trees country school. He was baptized along with his entire family on December 24, 1940 in Tokio, North Dakota. Alvin was united in marriage to Nellie Geidd on June 5, 1947. After their marriage, they lived in the Cheyenne area until about 1950 when they moved to Montana, residing in Missoula, Hamilton and Cut Bank. While in Montana, Alvin worked for ranchers and farmers and logged with horses. They moved to Mentor, Minnesota in 1965. After living in Fertile for a short time, they returned to Mentor and Alvin farmed for a time with his brother, Russell. He then worked for many years for Russell Wilson on his farm and also operated the road grader for Woodside Township for many years. Nellie passed away on March 5, 2005. Alvin liked to watch and feed birds; he enjoyed working in his garden and had a passion for horses. He also had a sweet tooth and enjoyed eating chocolate. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.Survivors include two granddaughters, Mary (Tim) Triggs of Two Harbors, MN, and Lorie (Dave) Blomseth of Detroit Lakes, MN; one grandson, Kevin McDougall of Bagley, MN; three great granddaughters, Jasmine Triggs, Lainee (Michael) Sundberg, and Cammie Triggs; and two great grandsons, Wyatt and Dylan Blomseth; one brother, Russell Comer of Fosston; and one sister, Shirley Doyle of Fridley, MN.He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Allen and Steven; one daughter, Barbara; sister, Fern Doyle; and brothers, Virgil, Eldon, and infant brother, Delmer.
