Alta HansonAlta Hanson, age 87, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Wednesday (March 10th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday (March 15th) at Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Dale Mellgren officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (March 14th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Alta Marie Simonson was born on October 10, 1922 in Cando, North Dakota to parents John and Ocie (Abbott) Simonson. She grew up and attended rural school in the Mentor, Minnesota area. She was baptized and confirmed at her home in Woodside Township. Alta was united in marriage to Sydney Hanson on February 10, 1943. After their marriage they lived in Woodside Township. After her children were grown, Alta worked at Leon and Edie's Café in Erskine and cooked at the Erskine School for 25 years until her retirement. They moved into Erskine in 1992. Alta was a past member of Rodnes and Maple Bay Lutheran Churches and was currently a member of Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh. She was a wonderful cook, baker and lefse maker. She was affectionately known as "the donut lady" for her many years of making donuts for area residents and events. She also enjoyed crocheting beautiful afghans and giving them as gifts. Another of her favorite pastimes was watching the Minnesota Twins from their first exhibition games through the whole season. She could tell you all about the players and almost anything you wanted to know about the team. She passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 87 years. Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Sydney, of Erskine; two daughters, Gloria (Dave) Bauer of McIntosh, and Marvelyn (Darrel) Johnson of McIntosh; and one son, Rickey (Tamra) Hanson of Thief River Falls, MN; 9 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Diane Hanson Peterson of Thief River Falls, MN; one brother, Don (Betty) Simonson of Mentor; sister, Lila (Earl) Lucken of Winger, MN; sister-in-law, Kate Simonson of Mentor; brother-in -law. Clinton (Lois) Hanson of Cormorant Lake, MN. She was preceded in death by her son, Ron; grandson, Chris; infant granddaughter, Kathryn; brothers, John "Bud" and Earl Simonson.Honorary Pallbearers will be Alta's grandchildren and great grandchildren.Active Pallbearers will be Randy Nowacki, Ron Roed, Mark Hartel, Donny Vaa, Dan Salvhus, and Don Boehrnsen.
