Alphina Mahle

Alphina Mahle, age 93, of Mentor, MN passed away on Thursday, July 17th at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 21st at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine, MN and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Hitterdal Cemetery at Maple Bay, MN and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Alphina (Christianson) was born on June 8, 1915 to Syvert and Hansine (Amundson) Christianson in Bear Park Township, rural Gary, Minnesota. She attended rural school in that area and was baptized and confirmed at Sundahl Lutheran Church in Gary. She was united in marriage to Emil Edgar Mahle on November 23, 1931 at the Rindahl Faaberg Lutheran Church Parsonage. They farmed in Bear Park Township before moving to Mentor, Minnesota in 1942. Alphina was active in the farming business, and in 1970 she graduated from the Minnesota Art Institute. She remained active with her china painting and hand work, also her love in collecting and restoring antiques until she passed away. Emil passed away February 21, 1989. Alphina remained on the farm until her death.She was an active member of Hitterdal Lutheran Church until it closed, she had also been a 4-H leader and active in the community, she enjoyed her family and enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and canning, and making each grandchild and great grandchild their favorite food when they came to visit.Alphina passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, Minnesota at the age of 93 years.She is survived by two children, Duane (Sharon) of Palm Desert, CA, and Alice (Richard) Gunter of Towner, ND; four grandsons, Thomas (Laura) Mahle, Brian (Cathy) Mahle, Dwight (Joan) Gunter, and Daniel (Theresa) Gunter; two granddaughters, Laurie (Ronald) Miller and Lisa (Brad) Huffstuttler; 14 great grandchildren and six great great grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. Also family members of her special friend, Francis Martell who passed away on June 4, 2003.She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; sisters, Theresa Erickson, Minnie Erickson, Jeanette Brooks, and Guida Peterson; brothers, Salmer, Henry, Alvin and Roy; great grandson, Bryce Lane Huffstuttler; and special friend, Francis Martell.
