Allen Olson, age 80, of Gully, MN, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at his home in rural Gully. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston, MN with Marilyn Malmanger officiating. Interment will be in Queen Cemetery, rural Fosston. There will be visitation for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday. Allen Marvis Olson was born on November 20, 1933 in Queen Township, rural Fosston Minnesota to parents Carl and Beatrice (Swamby) Olson. He attended country school in rural Gully, MN until the eighth grade and helped on the family farm. Allen worked driving truck hauling gravel and working road construction living in a small trailer with his wife (Irene), and oldest daughter (Debbie) who traveled with him to gravel pits and construction sites for several years. He could remember every road he worked on. He was very mechanically inclined and could almost fix anything without effort. On January 18, 1958 he married Irene G. Folz. In 1962, they purchased a farm south of Gully, where they farmed small grains and had dairy cattle. Allen worked for HL Hunt Potatoes in the early 60's then began his career at Land O' Lakes until his retirement in 1992. Following his retirement, he continued farming and raising beef cattle being one of the first ranchers to have black angus cattle. Allen enjoyed hunting, farming, traveling to Montana to visit his daughter (Connie) while she was living in Montana and watching his youngest daughter (Lisa) performing in rodeos. Some of his best memories was his trip to Norway with his brother Leon. Allen enjoyed going to auction sales, tractors and collecting guns. And the last few years he enjoyed spending time in Oklahoma and Texas with his special friend Jewel Erickson during the winter months. On Tuesday, May 20, 2014 Allen passed away at his home in rural Gully at the age of 80 years and six months. Survivors include three children, Debbie (Bruce) Haaven of McIntosh, MN, Connie (Rusty) Irby of Gainsville, FL, and Lisa (William J.) Vedbraaten of Gully; grandchildren, Tina Haaven (Jim Farstad), Wendy (Scott) Kearns, Lindsay Haaven, Rainee Haaven, Roman Clark, Brittany (Chris) Carlson, Hannah Irby, Chris (Haven) Foldoe, Joe, Jon & Brandon Foldoe; great-grandchildren, Thea, Eli, Jeb & Sadie Haaven-Farstad, Nathan Kearns, Mason & Levi Halstad, Cooper & Trenton Clark and Hunter Foldoe; sisters-in-law, Leony Olson, June Olson and Geri Aanerud, brothers-in-law, Delbert Folz, Floyd (Margorie) Folz and Jim (Belinda) Folz; numerous nieces and nephews. And special friend Jewel Erickson of Clearbrook. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; parents, Carl & Beatrice Olson; brothers, LeRoy & Leon Olson; sister and brother in-law, Bernice & Lester Haltli, sister-in-law, Goldie Folz, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Llewelyn and Marie Johnson, brother-in-law, Allan Aanerud, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert & Gladys Folz.Blessed be his memory
