Allen Flateland

Allen Flateland, age 74 of Fosston, MN passed away on Monday, August 3rd at his residence in Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 7th at 11:00 AM at Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail, MN with Dawn Hanson S.A.M. officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church on Friday morning. Interment will be at Sand Valley Lutheran Cemetery, Trail, MN and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent to carlinhoialmen.com.Allen Oscar Flateland was born on February 5, 1941 at home in Trail, MN the son of Knute and Etta (Anderson) Flateland. Allen was baptized at Sand Valley Church. He resided at home until the age of 17 and then entered Cambridge State Hospital in December 1958. Allen resided there until May of 1960 when he moved to Brainerd State Hospital. In June 1969 Allen was transferred to Fergus Falls State Hospital and lived there until his admission to the Fosston Group Home on December 28, 1979. He began working at the East Polk County DAC in Fosston in January of 1980. Allen enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He spent every summer at home on the farm, driving tractor while picking up bales. He was also home for every holiday and special event. Allen enjoyed his years of work in the Fosston community, especially at the elevator. Listening to music was his favorite pastime. Allen also enjoyed fishing with friends.Allen is survived by his sisters Kathleen Larson and Annette (Gerald) Nelson both of Trail, MN, his brothers Bradlee (Margaret ) Flateland of Foley, MN and Olin Flateland of Fosston, MN, sisters-in-law Sylvia Flateland of Trail, MN and Stella Flateland of Badger, MN; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Arley Flateland in 1996, Howard Flateland in 2009, and infant brother Keith Flateland in 1936.Allen Flateland died on Monday, August 3, 2015 at his home in Fosston at the age of 74 years.Blessed be his memory
