Allan T. Johnson, age 74, of Fosston, MN, and formally of Wichita, KS, passed away on Monday, March 27th, at Essentia First Care Living Center. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Allan was born July 29, 1942 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Dr. Milburn and Amy (Myaer) Johnson. He grew up in Frost, Minnesota and graduated from Frost High School in 1960. He received his Bachelor's degree in art education from Bemidji State University. He was married to Kathleen Hogan in 1966. He joined the United States Navy in 1966 where he found his love of flying. He quickly moved up the ranks, earning his flight wings along with many other honors. He and Kathleen lived on numerous naval bases until his honorable discharge in 1976. Allan moved his family to the Grand Rapids, Minnesota area where he resided until his divorce. He lived at that time in the St. Paul, Minnesota area until his move to Wichita, Kansas where he worked at Flight Safety International as a flight and simulator instructor. He retired in 2009. Allan enjoyed flying, naval history, and anything to do with aviation. He was an active member of the naval museum in Pensacola, Florida and was a long-time member of the American Legion. He is survived by his sister, Alice Lewis of Phoenix, AZ; three children, Michael (Kathy) Johnson of Vine Grove, KY, Kristen (Craig) Hemmingsen of Fosston, MN, and Allan, Jr. of Zimmerman, MN; grandchildren, Michael (Kelly) Johnson of Tucson, AZ, Mitchel Johnson of Louisville, KY, Katelyn and Carly Hemmingsen of Fosston. He was expecting his first great grandchild in September. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Ann Susan Johnson.
