Alice DuRose, age 92, of rural Winger, MN, passed away on Sunday, April 20th at her home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 11:00 AM at Union Lake Free Lutheran Church, rural Winger, with Pastor Don Edlund officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church on Saturday, and interment will be at the church cemetery. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston, MN is in charge of the arrangements. Alice Nelson was born on April 22, 1921 in Sletten Township, rural Winger, Minnesota to parents Edwin and Ingeborg (Tveit) Nelson. She attended School District 177, also known as the Lone Tree Country School, graduated from McIntosh High School in 1939, and then attended Bemidji State Teachers College. She taught in rural schools for a short time until meeting and marrying William DuRose on October 23, 1942. They spent time working in Washington, D.C. until William was called by the army to serve in WWII. When he returned from the service they lived in Minneapolis, Howard Lake, and then moved to Garden Township, rural Winger which turned into their real home. Alice was a loyal loving friend to her family, and a gifted teacher who truly cared for each of her students. She received her Masters Degree in August 1978 from Bemidji State University, and completed her teaching career at Fertile-Beltrami on June 1, 1987. On Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 Alice passed away at her home in Garden Township; two days before her 93rd birthday. Alice will be loved, missed, and remembered forever by her daughter, Anitra (Paul) Ofstedal of Fertile, MN; sons, Edwin (Grace) DuRose of Stanchfield, MN, Sherman DuRose of Winger, and Jim (Julie) DuRose of Kalamazoo, MI; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Dietrich of McIntosh, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; and two sisters, Eva Falkenberg and Thelma Busey. Long live the memory of Alice DuRose
